The VRE rate reported refers to bloodstream infection rates. The VRE rate is calculated as follows:

(Number of hospital acquired cases with laboratory identification of VRE bacteremia associated with the reporting facility) x 1000 ÷ Number of patient days

This rate represents the rate of hospital-acquired bacteremias per 1,000 patient days.

Numbers

The number represents the number of new VRE bacteremias acquired while in hospital during the reported month.
