Ministry of Labour report regarding staff death

On August 10, 2009 the Ministry of Labour (MoL) provided London Health Sciences Centre with a summary of the findings of their workplace investigation regarding the death in January of a valued nurse in the Critical Care Trauma Centre who was also a patient at our hospital. LHSC had initiated contact with the Ministry of Labour as a result of the circumstances of the death.

London Health Sciences Centre is committed to health and safety in the workplace and will be reviewing the complete findings/commentary offered in this report, which does not contain any orders against LHSC. As noted in the MoL report, recommendations from the Joint Health and Safety Committee and other internal review processes have resulted in a number of infection safety initiatives that are currently underway. These initiatives to improve worker and patient safety include communications, education, structure and accountability, practice standards and resources.
