Brief Description:

With all the attention from several professional level sports leagues, concussion injuries are in the news almost every day.  However, it is not just professional sports players that experience concussions; both adults and children alike can experience a concussion from a variety of causes.

Paramedics of all levels will benefit from attending this paramedic rounds as you will be able to:

  • Discuss the prevalence and common causes of concussions 
  • Describe the term "concussion" using the basic related anatomy and physiology 
  • Summarize the key assessments and treatments that can be performed by trainers, coaches, parents, and responding paramedics 
  • Explain both the short-term and long-term consequences of concussions
  • Support the recommendations for appropriate return to activities following a concussion injury.
