Brief Description:

The Canadian Stroke Network, in cooperation with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, has updated the Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care. These recommendations impact the practice of paramedics in their care of out-of-hospital stroke patients.

Paramedics of all levels will benefit from this paramedic rounds, as you will be able to:

  • Relate the components of the Canadian Stroke Strategy Best Practice Guidelines for EMS

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of suspected acute stroke patients, and identify stroke mimics

  • Identify key information gathered and assessments performed by paramedics in caring for suspected acute stroke patients

  • Integrate the information and assessment findings into the transport decision-making process.
