Facilities

Located on three floors within the Lindros Legacy Research building at University Hospital, CSTAR is a 22,500 square-foot facility incorporating a fully integrated audio/video backbone in all teaching rooms. Equipment and facilities are world-class with advanced robotics technology, surgical equipment, on-site simulation labs, dedicated and flexible operating space, meeting/debriefing rooms, video monitoring, projection equipment with linkage to various operating rooms throughout the city and an outstanding staff to facility the learning experience.

 

6th Floor CSTAR

The Brent and Marilyn Kelman Centre for Advanced Learning provides world-class simulation training for surgical and general healthcare knowledge and skills.

Advanced Learning Suite

Configurable space – set up as a classroom, or put smaller teams together to debrief. Overhead projector and in-floor power throughout the room.

CSTAR/Kirkley Meeting Room

CSTAR/Kirkley Meeting Room


Shared with the Dr. Sandy Kirkley Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, this room seats 20 in variable table layouts. Full A/V capabilities.

Simulation Room

Two simulation bays with adjoining instructor viewing rooms that are purpose-built for high-fidelity simulation and learning scenarios. Fully equipped with video and audio recording capabilities.

Skills Lab

Skills Lab


The centre for all surgical and non-surgical training and simulation. Up to eight stations with full operating room services including laparascopic and arthroscopic surgical capabilities. Configurable into any hospital layout (OR, patient rooms, admitting etc) for training simulations or equipment demonstrations/evaluations.

Comfortably seats 10 people. Full connectivity with overhead projector, A/V camera, audio and video conferencing.

Multimedia Theatre

Multimedia Theatre


Seats up to 40 people and is connected within CSTAR and various operating rooms throughout the city. A recent renovation has updated the Multimedia Theatre with 2 - 96" LED video screens with the option for multiple computer inputs on the podium.  Full video/audio conferencing capabilities is also offered through dedicated IP connections or ISDN lines, annotation device and wireless internet connections. Power connections are available at each seat.

CSTAR Acute Lab

Acute Lab


Wet lab capable. The Acute Lab accommodates up to eight training stations.

Chronic Lab

Chronic Lab


Wet lab capable. Lead-lined room for diagnostic imaging. Best suited for one to two training stations.

Engineering Lab Space

Engineering Lab


The hub of the medical mechatronics and robotic surgery research.
