CSTAR operates a collaborative research program between LHSC, Lawson Health Research Institute and Medical & Engineering departments at Western University.

CSTAR contains an Idea Development Lab, Engineering Lab, Pre-Clinical Testing and Training Lab and a Clinical Research Operating Room within the Perioperative Suites at University Hospital. It integrates research, development, preclinical and clinical testing, validation and clinical implementation of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) technologies and robotics.

CSTAR provides an environment that enables meaningful collaboration of researchers, engineers and surgery clinicians who, collectively, identify solutions to current and future challenges in surgical care.

CSTAR researchers currently hold over $20 million in peer review research funding focused on minimally invasive, image-guided and robotic-assisted technologies for therapies and simulation training.
