Established in 2006 to honour the community service legacy of LHSC’s first President and CEO, Tony Dagnone, the President’s Award for Outstanding Community Service was created to recognize annually an individual at LHSC whose volunteer achievements outside of the hospital have made a difference to the lives of people in our community.
The President’s Award Program was expanded in 2009 to include one new award category per year over the subsequent four years. For 2009 this included the introduction of the award for Living Our Core Values – How We Work Together and How We Serve Our Patients. In 2010, the program introduced the President’s Award for Leadership, in 2011 an award for Innovation, and in 2012 the President's Award for Physician Leadership.
All staff, physicians and volunteers of LHSC, Lawson Health Research Institute (on LHSC payroll), London Health Sciences Foundation and Children's Health Foundation with at least one year of continuous service are eligible for these awards.
Anyone internal or external to LHSC can nominate someone for the award. Community members are encouraged to nominate LHSC staff for their external community-based work. Self–nominations are accepted with two additional letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee. Previous nominees are encouraged to re-apply but past recipients are not eligible unless they are nominated in a new category.
