David McLean is currently a consultant on the Talent Strategy and Development team. In 2013/2014 he demonstrated his leadership capabilities in many ways through his work as the Patient Experience Strategy Leader in the Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) initiative in the London Regional Cancer Program.
In this role, David was able to mobilize staff, physicians, and resources across the program to develop a more comprehensive understanding of PFCC, develop an implementation plan, and implement it. David’s leadership was a grass-roots approach to engaging staff in partnership with patient and family advisors in reflective practice. His nominators describe David as being an invaluable coach and mentor to the staff working in LRCP, helping to guide personal development and ensuring all changes implemented were adopted and owned by the program staff, physicians, and leaders who would need to continue new PFCC practices daily.
Upon his arrival in LRCP, David quickly and enthusiastically learned about the people and processes there, and became a respected member of the team. He choreographed a cultural shift from patient-focused care to patient and family centre care with buy-in from formal leadership and staff thanks to his ability to create a safe learning environment, supporting all stakeholders, and developing vital behaviours necessary for success.
While David helped to lead this important work, he also successfully completed a Masters degree in leadership studies from the University of Guelph.
