David Payne is this year’s recipient of the President’s Award for Living Our Core Values – How WeWork Together. David is the Furniture and Equipment Specialist in Facilities Management. His career at LHSC spans 30 years in various roles, beginning in 1987 as a Housekeeper before moving to Switchboard and Telecom.
A prominent theme throughout David’s nomination package was how he treats each of his colleagues with respect, both as a team player and through informal leadership. David is known to recognize the positive contributions of each team member. This is perhaps best expressed by how he mentors co-op students, teaching them the technical and professional skills necessary to succeed in their chosen fields while also allowing them to work independently.
David has a “can-do” attitude and handles competing priorities with a smile on his face. As one of his nominators notes, “David is efficient, works very hard and his team mates are impressed with the amount he accomplishes in a working day.”
David’s nomination package included a letter on behalf of the Facilities Management department with 21 signatures from his colleagues. In summarizing why David is most deserving of this award, one of his colleagues says, “In many ways, David exceeds the challenging requirements and expectations for this award. His ambitions, intelligence and accomplishments make him highly deserving of the honour.”
