Sherri Lawson is the Director of Inpatient Mental Health at London Health Sciences Centre. She has been with the organization for 33 years.
Through several initiatives, Sherri has shown a willingness to embrace challenges and works with physicians and frontline staff to find the best possible solutions. Sherri also recognizes the value in listening to patients and families through the Patient Advisory Council she helped develop for the Mental Health Care Program. Of her willingness to inspire buy-in from others, her nominators note, “When viewpoints are diverse, Sherri takes time to listen carefully and understand differing perspectives and work towards collaborative solutions in the best interest of patient care.”
Sherri has developed and maintained strong partnerships with community agencies. This is best expressed through Sherri’s leadership and achievement in the Home First initiative with the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), which improves outcomes for elderly patients by reducing admission to Long Term Care homes. The success of this initiative was formally recognized by the LHIN with a Quality Award and has helped lead to one of the lowest Alternate Level of Care rates in the province.
Sherri is highly regarded by her team and fellow leaders for her approach to leadership, which includes listening to others, being clear with her expectations, providing honest and constructive criticism, being accountable, and facilitating a positive work environment. Sherri also sees great value in using her skills to develop and support other leaders. This sentiment was expressed by each of her six nominators, including a fellow leader who credits Sherri’s knowledge, advice, and open-door policy with her own leadership development.
