Tips and Hints

For Completing a President's Award Submission

Do & Don’ts

Do:

  • Prepare separate paragraphs for each criteria and indicate examples of the nominee’s performance as it relates to that specific criteria
  • Ensure that those who write letters of support are familiar with the nominee’s work on a daily basis
  • Use specific examples that demonstrate a nominee’s application of award criteria.

For example, Living Our Core Values – How We Work Together:
“John demonstrates respect and collaboration in any interaction he has with staff. We recently had a department meeting that brought many voices to the table, and John ensured every person who had an opinion was able to share it, and then helped to re-focus the discussion in a way that respected the varying perspectives and positions. People left the meeting feeling like they had truly been heard, and all of the staff input went into the final meeting outcomes."

Don’t

  • Simply state how much you enjoy working with the nominee. Explain why, using examples where appropriate
  • Submit more than 10 pages in your package. Try to keep each letter of support to 2 to 3 pages at most.
