Five years young... a caring legacy 125 years old
London Health Sciences Centre marks twin anniversaries with historical display at London Regional Art and Historical Museum

(LONDON, Ontario) - The year 2000 marks two special anniversaries for London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). Five years ago, the former University Hospital and Victoria Hospital merged to form LHSC, now a leading academic health centre in Canada. As a university teaching hospital, LHSC is committed to improving health by building on its tradition of leadership, partnership, and patient-centred care.

"As I look back over LHSC's first five years, I feel an enormous sense of pride in the men and women of our hospital who have all contributed to the creation of a great academic health sciences centre playing a leading role in improving the health and the lives of the people of our community, our region, and beyond," says LHSC President & CEO, Tony Dagnone.

"I also feel an enormous sense of gratitude to our community and the many special individuals whose belief in the centre has energized them to strive for the best health care for London and our region," adds Dagnone.

LHSC's commitment to care, education and research is not, however, a mere five years old. The year 2000 also marks a second anniversary for the health centre - a remarkable legacy and 125-year tradition of care.

It was 125 years ago this month that London's first public general hospital opened. That hospital later became known as Victoria Hospital. To celebrate this occasion, LHSC invites you to attend the grand opening of a unique commemoratives exhibit of artifacts, photographs, and video.
