London Bid Committee responds to Shriners hospital decision

(Baltimore, Md)-- The Shriners Imperial Session delegation did not endorse the recommendation of London as the site of the Canadian Shriners Hospital for Children. The hospital will not be relocated to London.

The London Bid Committee received the results shortly after noon today. In response to the announcement, Tony Dagnone, President and Chief Executive Officer of London Health Sciences Centre and Chair of the London Bid Committee, says, "London made a strong and compelling case through the efforts of a great number of people at our hospital and in the community. As you can imagine, we are extremely disappointed that in the end, the decision was made to not support the Canadian Study Report's recommendation."

"While we are disappointed that the Shriners Hospital for Children is not coming to London, we have every confidence that Montreal will do an outstanding job of delivering the kind of exemplary paediatric orthopedic care that the Shriners are renowned for across North America.

"Our Bid Committee performed in an extraordinary manner in this intense competition. I am deeply proud of everyone involved," adds Dagnone.
