For Immediate Release:
August 27, 2008
(LONDON, Ontario) – LHSC is unaffected by the Maple Leaf deli meat recall by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Patient Food Services at LHSC has never served any of the recalled deli meat products at any of the LHSC hospital sites, including: South Street Hospital, University Hospital, and Victoria Hospital, including Children’s Hospital.
In our cafeterias Compass Group Canada, LHSC’s retail food service provider removed one product, Maple Leaf sliced roast beef immediately after receiving notice from CFIA. No other items on the CFIA’s expanded recall list have ever been served in LHSC cafeterias. Also, on-site hospital Tim Horton’s outlets do not use Maple Leaf deli meats.
On a daily basis, both patient and retail food services departments are checking the CFIA website and monitoring the expanded recall lists, reconfirming that the products listed are not used at LHSC.
