(LONDON, Ontario) – The London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) announced this morning that it will rescind the eight clinic nurse layoff notices currently on hold. These clinic nurses work in ambulatory cancer clinics held in the cancer centre, and providing nursing support to all cancer patients seen in the centre.
Last winter, the LRCP was faced with a budget target assumption that the hospital would receive zero per cent inflation funding. This created a significant budget challenge which, despite our best efforts, resulted in layoff notices issued.
"In February we committed to working together to seek out opportunities to save as many of the nursing positions as possible and we have been able to meet that goal,” says Brian Orr, Vice President, Cancer Services, LRCP.
Since that time there have been significant efforts underway to balance the LRCP budget. These efforts include:
"I am pleased that we have been able to avoid the need to reduce our clinic nurse complement, and I want to recognize and thank everyone for their efforts to improve our operations and address our budget challenges. Our nurses go above and beyond in providing exceptional patient care, saving lives and supporting our patients and their families through their cancer journeys,” says Orr.
