(LONDON, Ontario) – CSTAR (Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics) a collaborative research and education program of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson), The University of Western Ontario (Western) and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London (St. Joseph’s) has been invited by Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development and Trade to join a life sciences trade mission. On May 23, CSTAR and 31 other delegates will go to Israel and the West Bank to promote Ontario’s innovative life sciences companies, attract investment and strengthen cultural ties.
“There are over 900 life sciences companies in Israel and the West Bank. This is a unique opportunity to forge ties with a country that is considered a leader and innovator with medical devices and simulation technologies. Our goal is to promote CSTAR as a Canadian centre for research, validation and training,” explains John Parker, Director of CSTAR.
The five-day trade mission is expected to expand CSTAR’s reach into Israel and the West Bank and build upon CSTAR’s recent successes. These include its partnership with NucroTechnics to provide contract research services to industry, its growing medical device validation program and expansion of the ‘CSTAR Industry Roundtable’ with medical device manufacturers from Europe, USA and Canada. CSTAR is also positioned to offer advanced medical training because of its ‘full compliance’ designation as an Accredited Simulation Training Institute from the American College of Surgeons.
“This is not CSTAR’s first venture into seeking international partnerships. This past March, we went to West China Hospital, one of the largest acute care hospitals in the world, to begin work on a series of projects including research, education and business development. We hope to replicate our successes and continue to build on our international presence when we go to Israel,” adds Dr. John Denstedt, Senior Medical Director Surgery Services at LHSC and St. Joseph’s who is also participating in the trade mission.
