Volunteer program helps children
become siblings

 

(LONDON, Ontario) – A new baby’s arrival is an exciting time for a family but can be challenging for young children who don’t understand the full impact of becoming a sister or brother. Volunteers from the May Court Club of London are helping make the transition easier for kids and parents through the Sibling Awareness Program, held each month in the birthing unit at London Health Sciences Centre’s Victoria Hospital.

This free one-hour program is aimed at three- to six-year-olds whose mother is expecting a second child. In addition to visiting a birthing room, children are taught about new babies and their impact on other members of the family through a puppet show, a storybook and "newborn" dolls.

Members of the media are invited to attend the Sibling Awareness Program and interview representatives from the May Court Club:
