The federal election campaign is now underway and Election Day is Tuesday Oct. 14, 2008.
Patients in hospital who are eligible to vote can register under the special voting rules and vote using an envelope system that protects the secrecy of the vote. At LHSC the special ballot vote is conducted on Oct. 5, 6 and 7.
On Oct. 4, the hospital special ballot coordinators will ensure that information notices are distributed to all acute care beds. Special ballot coordinators are registered LHSC volunteers or employees and will wear their LHSC identification and Elections Canada credentials.
The notice informs potential visitors of the ongoing general election and the forthcoming visit of a special ballot coordinator to each room to provide them with an opportunity to register and vote. The notice also includes details on proof of identity and address of residence, which electors must present to register to vote by special ballot.
On Oct. 5, 6 and 7, the hospital special ballot coordinators must visit all acute care patients and register the eligible electors who request to vote by special ballot and have not already voted.
