LHSC provides neurosurgical care to regional, provincial, and national populations. Patient care is provided across the spectrum of illness: critical illness, acute, subacute and chronic conditions. Neurosurgical areas of expertise at LHSC include surgical management of neurovascular pathologies, oncology, epilepsy, pain, movement disorders, pituitary tumours, degenerative and complex spine, trauma and developmental and congenital disorders.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Neurosciences Program, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) works within the framework of advanced nursing practice. LHSC supports the NP’s full scope of practice for clinical care, and the advanced practice role in education, research & administration. The NP collaborates with Neurosurgeons, Fellows, Residents, Nursing staff, Interprofessional Health Team, Consult Medical Teams and associated services to enhance patient care, ensure continuity of care, connect with families and improve outcomes of both inpatient and outpatient populations affiliated with the neurosurgical service. The NP role in adult neurosurgery is well established and respected. The NP provides leadership in the management of this challenging population with the goal of exemplary patient care and positive family experience.
