LHSC congratulates Jan Hudec on his World Cup downhill gold medal

February 6, 2012

World champion skier Jan Hudec had his own cheering section here in London, Ont., when the 30-year-old Canadian won the World Cup downhill in Chamonix, France.

Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Robert Litchfield, Medical Director of LHSC’s Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic, and his team have been providing care for Mr. Hudec since 2004 when he received his first knee surgery at London Health Sciences Centre.

“Jan contacted me yesterday,” says Dr. Litchfield. “I congratulated him on his stellar achievement. Despite the many problems he has had with his knees over the years, he has the heart of a champion and is truly an outstanding athlete.”

Dr. Litchfield is world renowned for his work and knowledge of the injuries of elite skiers such as Mr. Hudec. His clinical and research interests include athletic injuries to the knee.

“We congratulate Jan Hudec on his accomplishments on the slopes,” says Bonnie Adamson, LHSC President and Chief Executive Officer. “I also congratulate Dr. Litchfield, his orthopaedic team, and the members of our Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic. Their work with Canada’s top athletes, as with patients in our region, is world class.”
