Medical residents at London Health Sciences Centre marked national Resident Awareness Day on Feb. 24 with an information kiosk and a number of activities that are part of resident training. This included medicine rounds, a mock code on SimMan at CSTAR (Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics), and a casting skills session with orthopaedic residents.
Resident Awareness Day is a national initiative developed by the Canadian Association of Internes and Residents and supported regionally by its respective Provincial Housestaff Organizations, which include the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario.
The objective is to raise awareness of the approximate 9,000 resident physicians across the country and to recognize their role in the delivery of health care across the system. Here in London, 636 residents contribute to the provision of services at both LHSC and St. Joseph's and come from all over Canada and around the world.
London Health Sciences Centre, in collaboration with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario, fosters learning and development opportunities through expert teaching and optimal resources and facilities.

Medical residents practise their casting skills as part of national Resident Awareness Day activities. Watching the demonstration are Dr. David Smithson and Dr. Sapna Sharma, both first-year residents in Obstetrics/Gynecology.
