Earlier this year, LHSC announced it was joining the Canadian Blood Services’ “Partners for Life” program and set a goal to donate 85 units of blood for 2012.
With all donations made since January 2012 counting towards its total, LHSC staff and physicians are pleased with their increasing total, now at more than 285 units – more than 300% of their original goal!
Of those blood units, 61 were donated by 35 “re-instated” donors – those who had not donated in 18 months or more.
As an acute care hospital, LHSC cares for the most medically complex and critically ill patients in the region. Having a stable blood supply is a key factor in being able to care for these patients, and with areas such as our regional trauma and cancer programs — both high blood-product users — LHSC uses the majority of all blood products collected in London.
