During the month of November, moustaches could be spotted at University Hospital, Victoria Hospital and South Street Hospital. 15 LHSC employees joined an LHSC Movember team and collectively raised $4,003 as well as awareness of men’s health issues.
LHSC’s Movember team also joined three other Movember teams consisting of healthcare employees in London and 79 individuals on four Movember teams – Team Manesthesia, LHSC, St. Jose’s Mobro’s, and HMMS Mustachios –raised a combined $16,118.
“It’s motivating to see healthcare workers in London raise awareness and funds in support of Movember," says Erik Elmauer, pharmacy porter, LHSC, and LHSC Movember team captain. “Men can often have difficulty discussing their health issues, especially mental health issues. Hopefully Movember encourages them to start a dialogue or get checked up.”
In addition to captaining LHSC’s Movember team, Elmauer also co-chaired London’s Movember initiatives this year. The funds raised in Canada support men's health issues, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives.
