LHSC will hold its annual staff memorial event on the evening of Tuesday, May 1 to honour those staff members who died in 2011.
During the simple ceremony, staff members share personal memories and light a candle in remembrance of their former colleagues, to a backdrop of soft guitar music and images of those who have died.
“The process of acknowledging loss is different for each of us. Our journey of bereavement is as unique as our life and work experiences and relationships,” says Warren Litt, practice leader of spiritual care at London Health Sciences Centre. “It is also, however, important that we recognize the shared and communal aspects of our grief. Our annual staff memorial is an opportunity for healing, a time when we can be together in community to honour and remember colleagues who have died.”
Staff who have attended previous memorial celebrations have described it as a moving and compassionate event that reflects the culture of caring at the hospital.
