Every day, LHSC patients need blood products and it can take many donors to save a life. For instance, a car accident victim may need up to 50 blood donors after sustaining a major trauma. A leukemia patient could need up to eight donors a week.
London Health Sciences Centre is one of the top users of blood products in the region, and has a greater need in the summer months and on holiday weekends when there is an increase in travel and activity, leading to injuries from traffic collisions and recreational accidents.
Staff, physicians and community members are encouraged to book an appointment with Canadian Blood Services to ensure there is enough blood to help our patients over the Civic Holiday weekend and throughout the remainder of the summer. The London Donor Clinic, located on Wharncliffe Road, will be open on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 9 am to 1 pm. The clinic will re-open for regular hours at 3 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
To book an appointment, visit blood.ca, or call 1-888-2DONATE.
