ISAN was responsible for rolling out the Emergency Department (ED) Access to Drug History Initiative in the Southwest. The initiative provides an electronic information system known as the Drug Profile Viewer (DPV) system, which will enable the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to share the prescription drug claims of Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) and Trillium Drug Program recipients with health care providers in hospital emergency departments.
Using the Drug Profile Viewer, health care providers will quickly identify and prevent harmful drug reactions and provide more informed emergency care. LHSC and SJHC were identified as the region’s “champion” site and went live with the DPV in December. Lessons learned at LHSC and SJHC will be leveraged to assist in bringing the remaining sites in the region online by mid summer.
In August, the implementation of the Drug Profile Viewer Initiative was completed. Thirty-three sites in LHIN 1 and LHIN 2 are now accessing the web-based application designed to prove real time access to the drug history of individuals on the Ontario Drug Benefits and Trillium Program. ISAN coordinated and supported the roll out of the programs across the region.
