Southwest Ontario Digital Imaging Network Project

In 2002, Southwestern Ontario hospitals embarked on a journey that pushed the limits of diagnostic imaging technology and is resulting in one of the most sophisticated digital imaging networks in the world.

Phase 2 - Thames Valley hospitals
The pilot phase of this project was successfully implemented at the eight Thames Valley Hospital Planning partnership hospitals from February 2004 to December 2005. These hospitals now have 24/7 electronic access to diagnostic images and related information from any of their sites—regardless of the geographical location of the patient or radiologist within the network.

“The sooner we can have this model across Southwestern Ontario - and the rest of Canada - the better!” says Dr. Richard Rankin, Radiologist at London Health Sciences Centre and Chair of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Western Ontario.

Phase 2.1 – initial expansion to other Southwestern Ontario hospitals
Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (which includes hospitals in Clinton, Seaforth, Stratford and St. Marys) and South Huron Hospital Association in Exeter are involved in this phase which was completed in the summer of 2007.

Phase 2.2 – expanding to the other Southwestern Ontario Hospitals
This phase, still in the planning stages, sees the further expansion of the project to hospitals in Grey Bruce, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton and Windsor Essex Regions.
