G-Tel CEO Ken Ritchie presents at $1500 cheque to Dr. Dalilah Fortin |
||
G-Tel provides damage prevention services to the utility world, helping Canada stay connected and functioning. But when G-Tel's CEO Ken Ritchie received a diagnosis of stomach cancer, it almost tore his whole world apart. To save his life, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) thoracic surgeon Dr. Dalilah Fortin removed Ritchie's stomach on July 20, 2010. Ritchie, currently on a six month check-up cycle, has been cancer-free ever since. This past December, in the spirit of giving back, G-Tel hosted a toonie fundraiser at its staff Christmas party. Every $2 put forth by staff was matched by the company. The event raised $1,500, which was then donated to LHSC in support of surgical equipment for the new thoracic operating room. "I want to help improve the quality of care and advance our technology for physicians," says Ritchie. |

Grateful Patient Makes Donation |

Doug Ecker presents a $1000 cheque to Dr. Richard Inculet |
||
For the past five years, Doug Ecker has been the coordinator of the Tillsonburg Cruise Nights. Every Tuesday night from May through September, classic car enthusiasts meet and share their passion for classic cars – and their desire to give back to the community.
Funds raised at these events have supported many different causes over the years. This year, Doug chose to donate some of the proceeds to one with a very personal connection - the Division of Thoracic Surgery Fund at London Health Sciences Centre.
Doug was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2000, a cancer successfully removed by Dr. Richard Inculet, Chief of Thoracic Surgery. Doug has been so grateful for Dr. Inculet’s compassionate care throughout the course of his treatment, he wanted to give something back. "The quality of care and the true compassion that I experienced at London Health Sciences Centre was above and beyond. Thank you, to Dr. Inculet and the whole team there. I’m so pleased that I can make this contribution to show my gratitude." says Doug. |
