March 24 - London Transit Commissions annual drop-in sessions

You are invited to London Transit Commission’s fourth annual drop-in sessions on Tuesday, March 24 from 2-4pm or 6-8pm at the Goodwill Building (255 Horton St.). As part of LTC’s ongoing effort to make each bus experience quicker and more convenient, the public can take part in open forum discussions on topics like the new smart card technology, rapid transit shift, accessibility, and draft 2015 service plans. March 25 - Ideal Way's 2nd annual Walk of Inclusion

Community organizations, Londoners, schools, students, politicians, faith community, multicultural groups, families, agencies, etc. are invited to "walk the talk" at the 2nd annual Walk of Inclusion, Wednesday, March 25 from 10:30am - 12noon at Victoria Park . Bring your banners and show your support for an inclusive London with Mayor Matt Brown, Chief Brad Duncan and others while the flag of Comm-UNITY is raised. In 2014, Ideal Way spearheaded the ALL-Inclusive London campaign with 21 community partners, including LHSC, culminating at last year's Walk of Inclusion that saw 500 people attend. This year, a significantly larger event is expected to continue building this London-spearheaded community model of equity and inclusion, fostering diversity, with potential to create a widespread movement.

February 12, 2015 - LHSC exceeds Partners for Life goal

LHSC succeeded in donating 493 units of blood through its “Partners for Life” initiative with Canadian Blood Services (CBS) last year – greatly surpassing the goal of 400 units!

December 31, 2014 - LHSC staff and physicians support community during holiday season

LHSC is proud of the role we play in our community throughout the year as staff, physicians, students and volunteers often extend the care we provide beyond the hospital’s walls. This holiday season, LHSC staff generously donated nearly 10,000 lbs of food to the London Food Bank, as well as 1,100 hats, gloves, mittens and scarves to the Children’s Aid Society of London & Middlesex.

August 21, 2014 - Getting cold to find a cure

The ice bucket challenge helped raise millions of dollars and awareness for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). After being nominated to dump a bucket of ice-cold water on his head, LHSC's President and CEO Murray Glendining accepted the challenge, and made a donation directed towards supporting the ALS research conducted by LHSC’s motor neuron disease team.

August 18, 2014 - LHSC places close second in blood drive

London Health Sciences Centre placed a close second in the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) “Hospital Challenge,” donating 127 units of blood in June and July. Lakeridge Health in Oshawa finished first with 152 units and in total, more than 800 units were donated by participating hospitals in June and July.

July 4, 2014 - Paddling for fun, fitness and philanthropy

The third annual Fanshawe Dragon Boat Festival is organized and hosted by the Rowbust Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team, and is co-chaired by Linda Kuska, an RN in the ortho clinic at Victoria Hospital, and Loraine Warnock, RN and coordinator of Medicine at University Hospital.

Hosted by Murray Glendining, President and CEO, and Ruthe Anne Conyngham, Chair of the Board of Directors, LHSC's Annual Community Meeting is an opportunity to bring together staff, physicians, community members and donors to celebrate accomplishments over the past year.

June 13, 2014 - World Blood Donor Day highlights importance of donating blood

Each year LHSC uses almost 23,000 units of red blood cells, 12,000 units of plasma, and 5,000 bags of platelets to care for patients. We are a top-three user of blood product in Ontario and the fifth heaviest user in Canada. As health-care providers, we encounter patients and situations every day that prove the importance of blood donations.

April 2, 2014 - LHSC supports organ and tissue donation

One organ donor can save up to eight lives. At any given time in Ontario, up to 1,500 people are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and every three days one of them dies waiting.To help increase organ and tissue donation rates and awareness, LHSC was pleased to partner with Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) to kick off a month-long workplace registration drive.

January 10, 2014 - LHSC hosts SoHo Community Open House

LHSC was pleased to welcome neighbours of the SoHo community (“south of Horton”) to an open house where they learned more about the demolition plans for the old South Street Hospital (SSH) and adjacent buildings.
