One of the protocols in our CCTC VAP reduction bundle recommends that the oral route be used for the insertion of gastric DRAINAGE tubes, wherever possible, for patients with endotracheal tubes. The nasal route is still acceptable for the insertion of feeding tubes.

What is the reason for this protocol?
