The Pain and Symptom Management Team is part of the Supportive Care Program. The Team is a resource to all clinical programs within LRCP and in the larger community.
It provides consultation services to medical, nursing and therapy staff. LRCP patients who are experiencing treatment and cancer related symptoms including fatigue, anemia, pain syndromes, lymphedema and malignant wounds will be referred to the Pain and Symptom Management team.
The Team is comprised of two neurologists with clinical expertise in pain management and registered nurses who are skilled in clinical assessment and nursing management of treatment and cancer related symptoms.
In addition, the Team works with a
multi-disciplinary group of specialists at LRCP that includes oncologists, nurses, social workers, dietitians, radiation therapists, pharmacists and others.
LRCP’s Pain and Symptom Management Team also works with healthcare colleagues throughout Southwestern Ontario including:
The Pain and Symptom Management Team provides clinical placements and education for student health professionals of The University of Western Ontario. The Team also provides continuing education for practicing regulated health professionals in Southwestern Ontario as faculty for LRCP’s Supportive Care Oncology: Partnerships in Education Program (SCOPE).
The Team is also involved in clinical trials research related to pain management.
