LRCP’s Supportive Care Program provides social work services to cancer patients and their families. Our catchment area includes Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth, Lambton, Kent, Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties.
LRCP has several specialized Cancer Disease Site Teams such as breast, colon, ovary and head and neck. Social workers are one component of these multidisciplinary teams. The site, or location, of the patient's cancer will determine the LRCP social worker who provides service.
Social workers work with patients over the phone as well as at LRCP. Social work outside LRCP or in the patient's home is not provided, but social workers consult with colleagues in the patient's local community whenever possible.
LRCP social workers are members of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and have obtained BSW or MSW degrees in social work.
They are experienced in medical social work or working with patients who have chronic or long-term illnesses. Their expertise is in providing professional social work to cancer patients and their families.
Their scope of practice includes: assessment, treatment and evaluation services in a therapeutic relationship between social worker and client. Social workers work with individuals, couples, families, and groups of patients and their family members.

Patients and families can self-refer to social work or may be referred by a health care professional in the community or within LRCP.
To book an appointment with a social worker through Supportive Care, call 519-685-8622 or fax 519-685-8636.
