Please note: As a result of the ongoing shortage of donated organs, the Multi-Organ Transplant Program can only offer transplantation services to patients who are full-time residents of Canada (Canadian citizens or those with landed immigrant status) who have current coverage with the provincial health insurance plan (OHIP).
Physicians can refer patients to the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Kidney Transplant Program for either kidney or kidney-pancreas transplantation. Patients may be assessed when they are approaching end-stage kidney disease, either before they have started dialysis or once they have initiated dialysis. Both living and deceased donors are used for kidney transplants that are performed at LHSC.
Please contact our transplant program for a copy of the Recipient Transplant Assessment Protocol. This document outlines the information required by the LHSC Kidney Transplant Program to assess your patient for transplant and includes required investigations and documentations.
Once the transplant referral package has been received, the team will contact the patient directly to schedule an outpatient assessment, which will be done over a two-day period. A copy of the patient’s assessment schedule will be faxed to your office and/or the patient's dialysis unit.
If you have questions or want to obtain a copy of the Recipient Transplant Assessment Protocol, please contact the London Health Sciences Centre Kidney Transplant Program at 519.685.8500 ext. 33851 or ext. 35932.
