Bathing & Hygiene

Patients are bathed at least daily. Patients who are perspiring or incontinent may require more frequent bathing. Dressings are done when soiled, skin is cleansed and dried and hair is washed when needed to promote patient comfort and reduce the chance for skin damage.

Patients who are awake and more stable may have more of their routine care needs met during the daytime or early evening, in order to help them sleep more comfortably at night. Patients who are unconscious and very ill are often bathed in the evening when unit activities are less hectic.

Care is individualized to each patient's needs and medical condition.
