Children and Youth Advisory Council

Our Service

The Children and Youth Advisory Council brings fresh, new, helpful and creative ideas into Children’s Hospital. The vision of the CYAC is to enhance family centred care by looking at the health care experience through the eyes of children and youth patients.

What our members say about the council:

"I am with the CYAC because I was once in the hospital myself and have experienced what those kids go through. I think that myself and other kids could change the hospital for the better."

"I have plenty of experience to share with the younger patrons and I know what needs to be done and how to do it. I am glad that I can be a part of the future care provided by the Children’s Hospital."

What to expect if you become a CYAC member

The CYAC meets monthly to work on projects, hear guest speakers and address patient feedback that is needed by the hospital staff. If you join CYAC you are expected to share your own health care experiences to teach others what it is like and use this knowledge to improve the care for others. You will work on a team with young people and health care professionals who may have different ideas than you, which can challenge you to think through difficult issues. By getting involved as a CYAC member, you can show adults and other young people what a positive and important contribution you can make to our health care system.
