Our Service

Goals of the Asthma Clinic

  • Assist in the diagnosis of asthma in children with respiratory symptoms
  • Identify triggers of asthma, such as allergies, second hand smoke, or other environmental problems, and assist in the control of these triggers
  • Investigate and treat conditions which either mimic or aggravate asthma, such as sinus disease, gastroesophogeal reflux disease, cystic fibrosis, immunodeficiency, aspiration or congenital malformations
  • Educate the parent/patient to manage asthma, including techniques of self-monitoring (if indicated or requested), with an approach to achieve the least amount of medication for the fewest symptoms, and no side effects
  • Educate students, residents, physicians and other health care workers with regards to paediatric asthma
  • Work with the Paediatric Emergency and other health care professionals to reduce hospital admissions
  • Provide assistance in outreach programs for smaller communities
  • Work with the Lung Association
  • Initiate or participate in research regarding paediatric asthma
