We will teach you about your endocrine condition and its management. A brief description follows of the different professionals involved so that you will understand their roles and how each one can be of help to you.
A paediatrician with specialized training and experience in the management of children with hormone disorders. Your child's medical care will be supervised by this physician. He or she will also spend time with you and your child discussing management of the hormone disorder at home. This physician is available to you at your regular check-ups every 3-6 months.
A registered nurse with additional education and experience will help you understand your condition, medications and routines for managing your condition. The nurse clinician is available to you at the time of diagnosis and in subsequent follow-up appointments and telephone calls.
A counselor who will help you deal with the changes involved in adjusting to your child's diagnosis. The social worker will listen to your concerns and provide emotional support. Sometimes, practical help (e.g. financial) or referral to a community resource is indicated. The social worker is available to you at the time of diagnosis and in subsequent follow-up appointments.
