Our Service or Program

The Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at LHSC and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at SJHC, support a single dedicated Transport Team. The team is comprised of highly skilled and knowledgeable nurses and respiratory therapists who have received comprehensive, advanced training in neonatal and paediatric transport; and work under medical directives to provide safe transport of critically ill infants and children. This transport team is unique in that it is based out of two organizations and provides collaborative care to both infants and children in our region who require tertiary care support. The team transports approximately 300 critically ill infants and children annually. If our NICU or PCCU is unable to accommodate an infant our team will then transport that infant to another facility where space is available. You can reach our recorded transport team line 24 hours daily by calling 1-866-367-8044 for transport requests, consultation and advice.
