Our Team

The Trauma Team works together to provide excellent care to children and their family during their hospital stay. We are committed to meeting your needs and focus on family-centred goals and values. We are here to answer your questions and to assist your family through such a traumatic event.

Many people may be involved in your child’s care but remember that YOU know your child best and are a very important member of the team.


Trauma Team Leader (TTL)

  • Provides timely, efficient emergency trauma care 24 hours a day to injured children
  • Provides trauma, medical, and surgical consultation

to minimize life- threatening injuries

  • Facilitates the transfer and admission of patients from Southwestern Ontario and northern communities
  • Provides clinical and administrative leadership to the

Paediatric Trauma Program

Most Responsible Physician (MRP)

Once your child is admitted to the hospital, the MRP will take over responsibility for care. This physician will follow your child until discharge.

  • Is responsible for the medical care of your child while in the hospital
  • Refers to specialty services and allied health for comprehensive health care and recovery from injuries
 

Nurse Case Manager – Kristine Hooghiem
The Nurse Case Manager will follow your child’s progression of care and answer any questions you may have about your child’s treatment. The Nurse Case Manager will assist you in the following:

  • Coordination, case management, and discharge planning
  • Patient liaison to facilitate ongoing communication amongst patients,
  • Families, physicians/surgeons, interdisciplinary team members, community
  • Hospitals, agencies, and care partners
  • Collaboration with team members to develop a plan of care
  • Acts as a resource for patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • By educating about prescribed interventions, procedures, and therapies
  • During hospitalization and in preparation for discharge
  • Provides assistance with completing insurance documents
  • Provides patient education in terms of injury prevention

Social Worker – Jill Stockwell
Social work services are available to all patients and their families who are admitted to the Trauma Program. The Social Worker can assist you in any of the following areas:

  • Supporting you and your child during periods of crisis and throughout the hospitalization
  • Linking you to available hospital and community resources
  • Advocating for you in hospital and in the community
  • Offering individual counselling for your child
  • Offering counselling for parents, couples and families


Nurse
A nurse will be responsible for caring for your child while at the hospital. This includes:

  • Providing physical care at your child's bedside
  • Teaching you about the special care your child may need
  • Helping you access support and/or services you may need
  • Providing a link between you and the multidisciplinary team

In addition, any of the following people may see your child based on his or her medical needs:

  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Community Care Access Centre Hospital Case Manager
  • Dietitian
  • Child Life Specialist
  • Respiratory Therapist
  • Psychologist
