PSAs assist nurses but do not perform direct patient care. They may assist with lifts or turns. They provide each bedside with supplies, and ensure rooms are regularly cleaned.
TSAs are responsible for the maintenance of the unit beyond the patient rooms: hallways, heavier cleaning, and troubleshooting non-medical equipment.
Both of these roles are vital to the smooth functioning of the Medical-Surgical ICU.
