Shutdown of Chalk River nuclear power plant - information for nuclear medicine patients
The Chalk River nuclear power plant continues its shut-down. This shut-down affects the supply of 99MO, from which the isotope Technetium is made. This isotope is used to test for heart disease and some cancers.
Our patients are our top priority and LHSC is working with its supplier to see how much 99MO will be available during the Chalk River shut-down. We also continue to investigate other tests that can be used for our patients where appropriate.
For patients with nuclear medicine appointments, you will be called if there is a change in your appointment. Otherwise, please come to your appointment as scheduled.
