Sexuality

Sexuality is a part of everyday life. Feelings about sexuality may affect your enthusiasm for living, your self-image or your relationships with others.

Some people go through cancer treatment without any change in their feelings and attitudes about sex. Others experience a variety of changes.

You may find that your sexual interest declines because of the physical and emotional stresses of having cancer and going through treatment. These stresses may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Feeling different about your body
  • Having financial concerns
  • Feeling unwell

Your partner’s concerns or fears also can affect your sexual relationship. Try to share your feelings with each other. If talking to each other about intimacy, sexuality, or cancer is hard, a Social Worker may be able to help you talk more openly. You can also talk to your healthcare team.
