What is the difference between LRCP and the Canadian Cancer Society (Society)?

LRCP provides treatment and support services for people with cancer and their families. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funds LRCP. Research is a key focus of LRCP and is funded by research grants and donations. Education of health professionals is also a responsibility of LRCP.

The Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.

The Society achieves its mission through research, education, patient services and advocacy for healthy public policy. Volunteers and staff support these efforts.

The Society trains and manages the volunteers at LRCP.

What do volunteers do at LRCP?

Society volunteers are here to help make you more comfortable during your visit. If you have any questions, please ask a volunteer. All Society volunteers wear yellow jackets, vests or t-shirts.

Volunteers can help you find:

• Information about how the Societycan help you and your family
• Information in the Patient and Family Library
• Comfort and support services
• Your way around LRCP
• Refreshments and food
• Someone to drive you to your appointments at LRCP

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 519-685-8603 or visit the Canadian Cancer Society for more information about being a Cancer Society volunteer at LRCP.

You can also contact the London Health Sciences Centre if you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the hospital (not LRCP).
