Operating Room - Brachytherapy Suite

LRCP runs a combined operating room, and brachytherapy suite on LRCP Level 1. It is a fully equipped operating room that can handle procedures requiring general and local anesthetics. It is also a fully shielded room, to allow for brachytherapy radiation treatments.  Both inpatient and outpatient cancer treatment procedures are done here, including:

• Gynecological Cancer Treatments
  • high dose rate brachytherapy
  • sites include:
    • endometrial cancer
    • cervical cancer
    • vaginal cancer
• Prostate Cancer Treatments
  • low dose rate seed implant brachytherapy
  • high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy
• Skin Cancer Treatments
  • high dose rate contact brachytherapy
  • surgery performed by a Plastic Surgeon

The OR is staffed by a multidisciplanary team, which is made up of Registered Nurses, Radiation Oncologists, Surgeons, Radiation Therapists, Physicists, Dosimetrists and Anesthetists.
