PROSPECT

(Prodromal Symptoms of Psychosis-Early Clinical Identification and Treatment)

The main objective of the PROSPECT clinic is to thoroughly monitor early symptoms and provide assessment and intervention for individuals at risk of experiencing psychosis. Our goal is to identify early signs in at-risk individuals and act to prevent psychosis or improve recovery outcomes. Close monitoring of risk factors allows for timely detection and proper treatment should more serious changes occur. If psychosis develops, we can reduce delay in accessing timely treatment and our clients will have immediate access to other PEPP services if the need arises.

Individuals that eventually develop psychosis exhibit subtle warning signs prior to experiencing a clinically notable first episode. This pre-psychotic high-risk state has been described as a prodromal state that may go on for many years. Our clients will have immediate access to other services, which provide rapid assessment and treatment for young people with a first episode of psychosis. Close monitoring of risk factors allows for timely detection and proper treatment should more serious changes occur. If psychosis develops, we can reduce delay in accessing timely treatment.

Services

Assessment

If a person has been referred to the PROSPECT clinic, an initial interview will be arranged with our screening clinician to assess whether criteria for at risk psychosis are met. If criteria are met, a more detailed assessment will then be completed by a psychologist. Once a person is accepted to PROSPECT, they will be followed regularly to monitor for changes in their mental health, and ability to function in school, work, and other functional activities.

Education and Support

Individuals and their families will receive information and education about what it means to be at risk of developing psychosis, as well as learn helpful coping strategies. All clients accepted to PROSPECT will also have the opportunity to participate in weekly group sessions which will offer support, provide education and enhance skills.
