Do you suffer from interrupted sleep? Do you snore or stop breathing at night? Do you wake up most mornings exhausted? Do you feel irritable or experience poor concentration throughout the day? Do you suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you have arrived at the right place.

Welcome to the Sleep and Apnea Assessment Unit (SAAU) at London Health Sciences Centre - Victoria Hospital. In the SAAU, conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy and insomnia are diagnosed and treated. Routine sleep studies and close management of these conditions reduces emergency department visits and hospital admissions. Studies are also completed to rule out certain diagnosis and conditions.

Our team consists of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, Respirologists, office staffand leaders to ensure all of your needs are looked after. Our aim is to appropriately diagnose, treat and improve the lives of patients with sleep disorders.

While sleep disorders have always existed, often they have been underdiagnosed. Research shows that one in five adults have trouble sleeping. If left untreated, sleep disorders can result in high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, heart attack, and depression. Daytime sleepiness can also increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents, work accidents, job performance, and quality of life.

Our facility is wheelchair accessible and has 9 private rooms. We have designated bariatric rooms to accommodate bariatric patients. Currently, our capacity is 9 adults per night, 6 nights a week. We also run studies during the day for shift workers, patients suffering from narcolepsy and delayed sleep phase syndrome. The lab is also involved in various research studies.

For more information, we recommend reviewing the ‘Patient Information’ and ‘FAQ’ portions of our website in advance of your sleep study. We look forward to meeting you!
