Why?
Ultrasound produces a picture using sound waves. This test will help in your diagnosis.

This test takes approximately 30 minutes. Please be punctual. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us by telephone immediately.

Before an Abdominal Ultrasound
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING after midnight the night before the procedure unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
Before a Renal (kidney) Ultrasound
There are no eating restrictions for this test.
During the Ultrasound
You will be asked to wear a hospital gown. A jelly-like substance will be applied directly to the skin surface and a series of pictures will be taken of the body part being examined. This gel wipes off easily and will not stain your clothing.
After the Ultrasound
The radiologist will send the ultrasound report to your physician. The results will be given to you by your physician.
