Know your Breasts
No matter what your age, breast health starts with knowing your breasts. You should be aware of what is normal for your breasts even if you hare having regular screening tests. Some women discover their own breast cancer through changes in the look and feel of their breasts.
A mammogram is essentially an x-ray of the breast. A mammogram can detect very small changes in the breast tissue and detect many lumps before any obvious physical signs appear. Mammograms are a safe procedure as there are only small amounts of radiation used.
When to Make a Breast Screening Appointment:
If you are between the ages of 50 and 74 years, it is recommended to have a mammogram every 2 years. If you are over the age of 74 or under the age of 50 regular mammograms are not universally recommended. Therefore, discuss any concerns you may have with your health care provider.
