Cardiology Residency

The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario provides a three year subspecialty training program in Adult Cardiology. The program is available only to those candidates who have successfully completed three years of a RCPSC program in Internal Medicine and will have achieved certification in Internal Medicine prior to their being eligible for the Certificate of Special Competence in Cardiology. Additional years of more specialized cardiology training, including both basic and clinical research training, can be arranged on an individual basis.

Program Administration

The responsibility for the organization and conduct of the UWO Adult Cardiology Training Program rests with the Program Director, Dr. J. Brown, and the Residency Training Committee. The Program Director chairs the Residency Training Committee, whose other members are faculty representatives from each of the UWO teaching hospital sites participating in the program, an educational coordinator (if applicable), faculty members with special skills/interests in particular program components (e.g. research) and two trainee representatives, one junior and one senior, elected by their peers. The Residency Training Committee will meet on a regular basis at the call of the Chair, generally at least quarterly, and will supervise, administer and evaluate all aspects of the Postgraduate Training Program. Through the appointment of the Program Director to the Department of Medicine Postgraduate Education Committee, the Program will maintain an appropriate liaison with and reporting mechanism to both the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Education Committee.
