THE DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL NEUROLOGICAL SCIENCES
The UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN ONTARIO
is pleased to announce the
7th NEUROMUSCULAR CONFERENCE
and EMG WORKSHOPS and
5th NEUROMUSCULAR REVIEW DAY
SPENCER LEADERSHIP CENTRE
London, Ontario, Canada
November 12 - 14, 2010
Held at the Spencer Leadership Centre in London, Ontario, Canada, the conference provides luxurious accommodation in an informal gathering of participants and faculty, world class talks and workshops in a variety of topics in the field of neuromuscular diseases. Previous faculty include many internationally prominent neuroscientists, neurologists and physiatrists.
This conference is aimed at neurologists and physiatrists at all levels, from trainees to practicing physicians in the community or academic centres. The conference has evolved into a three day event.
On Friday there is a day-long refresher course in Neuromuscular Diseases. Organized and co-chaired by Dr. Shannon Venance and Dr. Christen Shoesmith, this course is suitable for trainees at all levels as well as practicing physicians who want a basic level update on topics of interest in the field of neuromuscular diseases.
This event begins with the Friday night ‘Kick-Off’ lecture, delivered by an invited speaker of international or national prominence on a hot topic in neuromuscular diseases. Organized and chaired by Dr. Angelika Hahn, the conference is held all day Saturday, with a series of lectures given by national or international experts in the field on the cutting edge of neuromuscular disorders.
Past talks have included updates on focal neuropathies, the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory myopathies, muscle channelopathies as well as the inflammatory and hereditary peripheral neuropathies. Two or three case presentations are given to highlight some of the important clinical features of the diseases being discussed. The conference day is suitable for all levels of physicians and allied health practitioners and provides an unrivalled opportunity to hear about the latest news from the neurological and physiatry field of neuromuscular diseases.
These sessions provide the opportunity for a small group approach to a variety of common issues in neuromuscular disorders, from diagnosis to treatment. The sessions consist of a series of practical discussions and Q&A sessions with international and nationally recognized leaders in neuromuscular diseases.
The workshops are organized by Dr. Michael W. Nicolle and Dr. Tim Doherty. These hands-on sessions provide trainees or practicing EMG'ers an opportunity to learn new techniques or practice and revise techniques already in use. Attendees have the choice of two different workshops from a list of four or five, with each small group session lasting 90 minutes. Attendees have the chance to see leaders in EMG practice what they preach, providing technical and clinical pearls of use in day to day EMG practice.
Past sessions have included demonstrations of the pertinent peripheral neuroanatomy, as well as how to electrophysiologically diagnose a demyelinating neuropathy or disorder of neuromuscular transmission.
If you are curious about the subjects covered in the Annual Neuromuscular Conferences, you may find topics previously presented in our brochures from past years. These are .PDF format documents, you will need Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader to open them.
